EAD photo (Form I-765): the 30-day recency rule
The detail most applicants miss: USCIS requires photos taken within 30 days of filing, not the 6-month window passports use. Reusing an old passport photo is the single biggest cause of I-765 rejections.
Concurrent vs. standalone filing
- Concurrent with I-485 — same filing date, so one photo session covers both I-765 (2 photos) and I-485 (2 photos). Take 4 prints from one shoot.
- Standalone (EAD renewal or initial) — fresh photos within 30 days of your I-765 filing date.
Digital upload spec for e-filing
JPEG, 600 x 600 to 1200 x 1200 px, under 240 KB, sRGB. Portrait mode and selfie beauty filters count as digital alteration and trigger rejection — never use them.
Glasses
Not permitted since November 2016 — no exceptions without a signed medical statement.
