Most common rejection reasons
- 1A hand or arm supporting the babyYou may support a baby's head, but HM Passport Office does not accept a photo where a parent's hand or arm can be seen supporting or holding the baby.

Children under 1 do not have to have their eyes open. Children under 6 do not have to look at the camera or have a plain expression. Babies must not hold toys or use dummies, and the child must be alone in the photo.

For a child under 1, lay the baby on a plain light-coloured sheet and take the photo from above. You may support the baby's head with your hand as long as your hand is not visible in the photo.

On a paper application the countersignatory signs the form and writes a true-likeness statement on the back of one of the two printed photos. On an online application they confirm the child's identity online and do not sign a printed photo.
